A Good Nose

Like millions of investors around the globe, I often kick myself for not timing my buys and sells better. The list of missed opportunities is long. Foregone crypto investments that skyrocketed. Trading a good asset for a bad asset. Not selling a Pokémon card before the price crashed.

But the truth is: I have a good nose. That, too, is a trait you, and I, and millions of other people share. We have a flair for the things we like, and that allows us to be early to trends that will eventually catch on.

I bought a beyblade in Italy when I was 11. Soon after, it became all the rage in Germany. I’ve been snooping around in blockchain land since 2017. And, for some reason, I got back into Pokémon cards exactly 12 months before they saw their biggest boom of all time.

It’s easy to berate yourself for your bad decisions, but, chances are, they’re a few wilted flowers lying in a pile of good choices. For every missed opportunity, you can find a handful of smart calls taken. Even if those calls are tiny, they add up.

Celebrate your good nose, and enjoy the new frontiers it takes you to. No one ever hits all home runs. Life is about the joy of discovery more so than taking the perfect series of steps along the way.
