Carrying a Heavy Future

Cassian Andor is a roughneck, and roughnecks don’t believe in pseudoscience. So when his girlfriend Bix drags one of the Rebellion’s finest pilots and soldiers to a Force healer, he’s not amused. But eventually, he relents and allows the strange lady to examine the injury on his shoulder.

After what turns out to be more of a hug than a massage or real investigation, the healer commends Andor’s strong spirit, which, for some strange reason, scares the tough guy, and he runs away. Slightly perplexed, Bix tries to pick up the conversation: “You scared him.” “I’m sorry,” the healer goes. “It’s not easy to do.”

Bix asks for insight into her insight, and the healer explains: “I sense the weight of things, things I can’t see. Pain, fear, need. Most beings carry the things that shaped them. They carry the past. But some, very few, like your pilot… They’re gathering as they go. There’s a purpose to it. He’s a messenger. There’s some place he needs to be.”

In her heart, Bix had already suspected as much, and we, the viewers of Andor, know this will prove true. And while Cassian is as of yet oblivious, not even the excellent pilot can escape the guiding hands of fate.

Carrying the past with us? That’s normal. We all do it. But the weight of the future? It’s an unusual payload. It could mean we’re simply overthinking things. It could also be a pointer towards somewhere important we’re meant to go. Whatever you have strapped to your back, remember: It doesn’t take a Force a healer to set down your parcel. You can share with the people you trust at any time.

Don’t let anyone deter you from your biggest mission—but don’t confuse “important” with “alone.”
