You’re on the right track. Getting up right away is key. And setting up your alarm at the other end of the room is a good start.
But if you’re really struggling with this, it’s time to bring out the big guns.
Here are the 2 best “hacks” in this department I know of:
1. Step Out Of Bed! This app literally forces you to get up in one of two ways:
- You have to walk a set number of steps with your phone in hand before the alarm turns off.

- You have to take a picture of the room you’re supposed to be in after you get up, like your bathroom.

2. Clocky. Clocky is an alarm clock that literally runs away from you. You have to get up and catch it!
Some less annoying ways once you get better at this:
- Put up a sign on your ceiling that says: “Get up, the day is waiting for you to kick its ass!” so that’s the first thing you’ll see upon opening your eyes. One of my best friends used this awesome crime scene tape to do it (it’s in German “Steh auf”):

- Text yourself an inspiring message automatically at the same time each day with IFTTT. Here’s a recipe you can use: Text yourself.
But of course, the best way to get up right away when you wake up remains this: find something that makes you genuinely excited to start your day.
I know, this isn’t easy, it won’t happen overnight, but once you find your thing, you’ll never need an alarm, ever again.
