I Found Something Beautiful Amidst a Torrent of Terrible News

In The Happiness Project, Gretchen Rubin says it takes about 5 positive experiences in our lives to compensate one negative one. If that’s even remotely true, then the whole media system really is crooked beyond belief.

Can’t we have a news app that serves us with that golden ratio of positive to negative news? That way, I wouldn’t have to wade through a sea of sh*t each time, digging for the gold.

While you get on that, I’ll keep wading — pun intended. This week, I found something beautiful in the mud.

On Monday, May 22nd, 22 people were killed, including an 8-year old girl, and another 116 injured, when a suicide bomber blew himself up at an Ariana Grande concert in Manchester.

Less than two weeks later, Ariana rounded up over a dozen world famous musicians, including Robbie Williams, Pharrel, Take That, The Black Eyed Peas, Katy Perry & Justin Bieber to give a charity concert.

50,000 people decided to show up within less than 6 minutes of the tickets going on sale.

The event raised $2.9 million, all of which will be added to the $12.9 million so far raised to help the victims and their families.

What’s more, Ariana re-released one of her singles ‘One Last Time’ as a benefit version, with all sales being donated to the same cause.

The whole event was streamed live on BBC and Apple Music and now the videos go crazy all over Youtube.

This is what humans do. We’re an antifragile species. No matter how hard adversity strikes us, we rally and come back stronger.

In this case, as a response to one miserable asshole’s terrible actions, 50,000 people came together to say:

F*ck you terrorism. Go humans. One love.

I think that’s beautiful. Only four left to go for today. Three, if you listen:

Now where is that app?
