Yesterday, I spent too much time looking at recipes for iced coffee. By the time I found one I was happy with, it was too late in the day for more caffeine. So today, I tried again.
I didn’t have any instant coffee granulate at home, so instead, I cut open one of my Nespresso capsules. I learned the hard way that coffee powder doesn’t dissolve the way granulate does, and so the finished drink was a grainy mess.
For a moment, I heard an angry voice in my head: “Why am I so stupid? I should have known this. Now I’ve wasted a ton of milk.” I decided to not further indulge this voice. “Let’s just try again.”
I salvaged as many of the ice cubes as I could. I prepared a proper espresso. I poured away the milk and added fresh one to a new glass. The result is amazing—exactly the drink I’ve wanted for days!
It only took one sip to forget all my troubles. The journey was harder than it should have been, but it was still worth every step.
It’s neither necessary to succeed on your first attempt nor to berate yourself whenever you fail. Whether you do it tomorrow or right away, it’s enough to try again.
