If I take away your internet access, your ability to do stuff drops by 90%. Sending emails, streaming movies and music, looking up information and destinations—all gone with one broken cable.
Depending on the size of that cable, your power supply might also say sayonara. You’ll be down to your last charge on your phone and laptop immediately. No more screen devices, kitchen appliances, and no more staying up past sunset.
Finally, you might one day wake up and, like me this morning, find you have no running water. Whoops! No more showering, shaving, or quenching your thirst whenever you want to. I hope you’ve got some bottled water stashed away.
On any given day, it only takes three stone throws to send us right back to the Dark Ages. Some technologies have become so central to our existence, without them, we’d be nothing more than bereft royals, sitting in cold castle ruins, waiting for the lights to turn back on.
There aren’t many all-that-useful precautions you can take against that. But you can remember to appreciate the basics.
Modern life is fragile. Cherish it every day it doesn’t break.
