When you put your work out for the world to see, your megaphone will grow and shrink over the years. At times, it’ll feel like you can’t say anything without 50 people dissecting your thoughts. But then your megaphone will grow smaller again, and suddenly, you’re not sure whether anyone will hear what you have to say at all.
This is both one of the best and most frustrating parts of the internet: For the most part, nobody cares. You can make what you like, and if it’s no good, you try again tomorrow. But then again, even when you’ve made something amazing, chances are, you’ll still have to try again tomorrow.
After ten years of publishing online, I have learned that the frustration never goes away. “Hello?! Can anyone hear me? Why is nobody listening?!” The only difference after years and years is that, even when you think no one will care, you’ll say it anyway. After all, you never know for sure…
It’s hard to feel unheard, but the only way to be heard is to keep speaking from the heart. Whatever you want to say, say it anyway, and trust that the message will one day find its home.
