Solar Days Don’t Change

Whether it is one’s own age, the internet’s quiet permeation of everything, or a genuine acceleration of the pace at which technology changes the world: I know it can feel like the world keeps spinning ever faster — but it doesn’t.

It takes 24 hours for the Earth to make a full rotation around its own axis. It takes 365 such solar days for our planet to lap the sun. No matter how many wars we start, viruses we battle, or intelligent robots we invent, none of that will change in the next billion years. I find it rather comforting.

Don’t let the pressure of our connected world get to you. Take your time. Chances are, you have more than enough of it — and the world won’t spin fast enough to throw you off any time soon.
