Having slept only okay-ish with multiple strange dreams, I was brushing my teeth. After such nights, it’s easy to get stuck in a negative thought loop that persists. Still slightly groggy, I opened the sliding door to the garden. I was greeted with the sound of the wind, some birds, and…a chainsaw.
Back at my parents’ house, we’ve complained about early-Saturday-morning woodcutters ruining the peace many times. But today, my first thought was different: “Hm. People are out and about. Working. Doing. Trying the best they can. That’s cool. Maybe all I have to do is join their ranks for the day.”
I did my workout, meditated outside, and so, punctuated by the busy rattle of the chainsaw, my day slowly began. Who knew? Even the sound of a chainsaw can be calming—if only it falls on ready ears.
