Entitlement. We might not be Generation Y, but we sure ask the question a lot:
- “Why didn’t my parents get me an iPhone?”
- “Why can’t I stay late at Steve’s party?”
- “Why doesn’t Stacy like me back?”
- “Why did I get a worse grade than Rick?”
- “Why does Terry get the scholarship, not me?”
- “Why was I fired from that bartending gig?”
- “Why did I get a negative comment on my article?”
- “Why does the professor hate me?”
- “Why did I lose my wallet while partying last night?”
- “Why don’t they approve my credit faster?”
- “Why didn’t they hire me?”
- “Why can’t I get the loan at the lower rate?”
- “Why did my business partner betray me?”
- “Why did Sandra get the promotion?”
- “Why can’t I just get what I want?”
For one, simple reason: The world doesn’t owe you a damn thing.
If achievement was as easy as desiring it, we’d all be top model billionaires already. It’s supposed to be hard. That’s what makes it worth striving for.
Get used to it, stop complaining and start doing things. Until you actually deserve the things you want. You get what you work for, not what you wish for.
