Which Line Motivates You When You Are Down?

With great power comes great responsibility.

It’s from the first Spider Man movie (2002). In fact, I just finished watching it. Because today is a great example. It’s a slow day.

After kicking ass all week and not sleeping too much, I went to see Fast & Furious 8 yesterday. I worked from 7:30 AM to 8:30 PM, then walked a mile in direction of the cinema, thinking I’d buy food on the way.

Everything was closed, so I got on the subway to meet my friend there. When I got off one kebab shop was still open. I bought one and snuck it inside.

After the movie, I just managed to catch the subway and subsequent bus and went to bed at about 1 AM. Woke up at 6 AM and realized everything would be closed today as it’s a holiday. Thought I might as well catch up on sleep.

At 11 AM I properly got up, but the days where I sleep in are always slow. I hung out in bed, took a shower, bought some bread and pretzels and made an awesome super late breakfast. Then, I started the movie.

When I left school yesterday, I had a long list of things I wanted to get done today. I might not be able to finish all of them. But whenever I have a slow day like this, I remember Uncle Ben’s line:

With great power comes great responsibility.

I’m not Spider Man. I have no superhuman strength. I can’t swing from building to building. Or stop a train from crashing.

But I have this great power to write in a way that sometimes, it resonates with people.

  • Sometimes, they say it’s made them smile.
  • Sometimes, they say it’s made them think.
  • And sometimes, they say it’s changed their lives.

That’s what I’m here for. That’s my power. And it’s my responsibility to use that power every day.

So here I am. At 7 PM. On a slow day. Writing. All of this, just so I can ask you:

What’s your power? What’s your responsibility?

And how will you use it today?
