It terrifies me a little whenever I need to ask that question. How could I not remember when we went to Portugal? Or when my parents first visited us in our new flat? But life is long, and memory is not. That’s why it’s nice to have a searchable photo folder on your phone.
This year, I made another addition to the memory toolshed: A paper calendar for the year, pinned to the wall in our office. All major events and travel go on there. It just struck me that, instead of tossing it out, I should probably fold it up and keep it. Even now, just looking back through the trips and events that happened and didn’t happen, it’s nice to reminisce. How cool would it be to have a map of where your time went for each year?
It’s okay to forget. It’s also okay to get support in trying to remember. Pick a few memory pillars, and make most questions about your past questions you’ll always be able to answer.
